How to Have a 'Money-Free' Day

Can you go a day without spending?

They say Rome wasn't built in a day...neither was a savings account. If you pledge not to spend any money just a few days a month, you'll see a bigger balance.

Here's how you can go a whole day without spending a dollar. Bring your food for the day from home. That means packing a lunch -- whether it's leftovers from last night's dinner or a sandwich and skip the afternoon latte. Instead, stock your desk with tea bags or instant coffee.

Use a money-free way to get to work: walk or bike and you'll get your exercise in for the day too.

Delete those deal-of-the-day e-mails! As soon as they come in, just trash them. Tomorrow is another day with other deals.

It may be hard to down a last minute invitation to happy hour after work, but if you're about to go home for the day, you've come so far. Don't ruin your progress with a margarita!

And save paying bills for another day. No need to torture yourself. Saving doesn't have to be boring. It can be fun to sit back and watch your money grow.
