Foo Fighters cancel tour dates after Dave Grohl breaks leg on stage
The Foo Fighters are putting two shows on hold after frontman Dave Grohl fell off the stage during a concert and broke a leg.
Grohl took a nasty tumble during a performance Friday in Gothenburg, Sweden, in front of thousands of fans.
"I think I just broke my leg. I think I really broke my leg," Grohl told the audience following his fall during an energetic rendition of "Monkey Wrench."
Medics whisked the singer away as drummer Taylor Hawkins distracted the concerned crowd, but the pause in the performance was short-lived. The former Nirvana drummer was soon back on stage with an EMT helping to prop up his bandaged leg. "I may not be able to walk or run but I can still play guitar and scream," he said.
While the show went on Friday, the band announced on its website a day later that it had decided to pull the plug on a scheduled Sunday stop at the Pinkpop Festival in the Netherlands and a June 16 concert in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
The group also posted a shot of the X-ray showing Grohl's fracture, along with the caption: "Thank you Gothenburg. That was amazing."
Below is the band's full statement announcing the cancellations. It's unclear if the performances will be rescheduled.
As witnessed by tens of thousands in attendance at Foo Fighters' June 12 show at Ullevi Stadium, Dave Grohl took a nasty spill during the second song of the set. With the help of on-site medical staff who patched him up temporarily, Dave was able to rejoin the band to complete that performance.
While the full extent of Dave's injuries are still being determined, it was confirmed at a post-show hospital visit that he sustained at least one fracture.
As a result Foo Fighters have been forced to cancel their June 14 appearance at the Pinkpop Festival as well as their June 16 show at the AFG Arena in St. Gallen, Switzerland.
