Jill Soloway talks Caitlyn Jenner, transgender women and the feminist community

Following considerable buzz surrounding the New York Times piece about Caitlyn Jenner, titled "What Makes A Woman?," award-winning "Transparent" creator Jill Soloway responded to the polarizing conversation arising about transgender women and the feminist community.
"There was a big controversy over this New York Times op-ed that came out over the weekend," Soloway said Tuesday evening at Variety's A Night in the Writer's Room event in Beverly Hills, Calif., referring to the chatter as a "turning point" for her.
"There's this kind of this vague in-fighting that's happening between the feminist community and trans women, and honestly, it is a very small minority of women — for the most part, feminist and trans women get along, but this feminist conversation is really starting to rise up and it's exciting as a feminist to have these conversations, but gosh, it's a lot."
She added, "This is a conversation we hope to have in Season 2."
Sitting on a TV comedy panel with scribes Adam F. Goldberg ("The Goldbergs"), Mike O'Malley ("Survivor's Remorse") and Jennie Snyder Urman ("Jane the Virgin"), Soloway also spoke of the timing of "Transparent's" debut, in light of Jenner's story being told.
"We think about where we were two years ago with this story where I was sort of like, Can I tell this story? Will I be able to move through the world with people knowing that my parent is trans? And even like a little bit of shame, I was kind of afraid and my parent was afraid," she recalled. "And now, Kim Kardashian and Khloe and Kendall and Kyile, we're all the same. We all have the same thing going on and it's totally normal! It's crazy. It's totally crazy."
