8 kitchen hacks that can help keep your food fresher longer

What's the best way to keep strawberries fresh? Would you believe vinegar?
Lifestyle expert Kris Schoels, of TheChicWife.com, showed INSIDE EDITION's Diane McInerney how to save a fortune by keeping foods fresh longer - starting with strawberries!
Put the strawberries in a large bowl
Pour water on top of them
Add a splash of vinegar
Spread them around in the bowl
Rinse mixture off of them
Lay them out to dry
Place the them in the refrigerator
She told INSIDE EDITION, "Normal strawberries would last a week in your refrigerator. These will last two weeks."
And no vinegar after-taste!
When it comes to asparagus:
Pour water into a glass or container
Place the asparagus in the glass vertically
Schoels says, "They're almost like fresh-cut flowers. It's going to keep them really crisp because they're actually going to drink the water in the container."
We'll drink to that! And here's a way to make eggs last longer:
Grab paper towels, eggs, and mineral oil
Lightly dab mineral oil on paper towel
Coat egg with mineral oil
Schoels told INSIDE EDITION, "Eggs are really porous, they'll take on the taste of other things in your refrigerator."
A coating of mineral oil fixes that problem!

And when it comes to keeping celery and lettuce fresh:
Take a dry sheet of paper towel
Roll up the cut celery
Store it in a Ziploc bag
Schoels told INSIDE EDITION, "What the paper towel does is take the moisture away from the celery, keeping it nice and crisp. You do the same thing with lettuce greens. Take all the air out of the bag, because the air causes browning."
Avocados turn brown soon after they're cut. The solution?
Take a little bit of lemon
Squeeze lemon juice over the top of the avocado.
Store it in Saran wrap with the cut side down
You're sure to flip over this pineapple tip!
Schoels says, "Because they're shipped this way, all the sweetness goes to the bottom."
She suggests to:
Pop the top off of the pineapple
Store it on the counter upside down until it ripens
She adds, "Then all the sweetness is going to go through the top of the pineapple!"

Take two pieces of bread
Place them inside the cake
Secure it with toothpicks
Schoels says, "The cake is actually going to take the moisture from the bread and it's going to keep the cake really moist."
