WNBA star Brittney Griner is clearly still emotional about her embattled one-month marriage to fellow WNBA player Glory Johnson. Just 28 days after their wedding, Brittney filed an annulment from Glory -- just one day after Glory announced she was pregnant.
"Prior to us getting married, I knew I shouldn't have went through with it," Brittney, 24, now tells ESPN in a candid new interview about their rocky relationship. "Sometimes you feel pressured into things and I went along with it. I just knew it was a mistake."
She also calls the couple's April arrest in Goodyear, Arizona, "mutual combat." According to People, Brittney had injuries to her wrist and fingers from the incident -- including what she described as a "tooth mark" on her hand -- and Glory, 24, suffered lacerations to her right lip.
"It was mutual -- they called it mutual combat, that's what it is," Brittney comments.
Her advice to others in a similar situation? "Walk away," she says. "No matter what it is, walk away. It never ends good. Domestic violence is never OK no matter what the situation is."
The Phoenix Mercury star broke down in tears at one point, when asked to describe the last 10 months.
"Emotional," she sobbed.
Glory has yet to publicly comment on the two's highly publicized split, but her rep told TMZ last week that she still "loves Brittney."
"Glory loves Brittney and made a huge sacrifice to carry a child, put her career on hold, to invest in their relationship and their future," her rep, D.J. Fisher, said. "As a result she won't be playing this season."
For her part, Brittney calls the pregnancy news a "surprise." "It's very early," she says. "It's too early to post or say anything about it. I was surprised."
