Kyrie Irving's season is officially over. The Cleveland Cavaliers announced on Friday evening that their star point guard suffered a fractured kneecap during overtime of Game 1 against the Warriors.

According to the Cavs, the fracture was revealed during an MRI on Friday at the Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic. Iriving will require surgery; his timetable for a return is three to four months.

Cavaliers guard Kyrie Irving left last night's NBA Finals game one in the overtime period with a left knee injury. He received an MRI today at Stanford Sports Medicine Clinic, which revealed a fractured left knee cap. He will have surgery to repair the knee in the coming days at the Cleveland Clinic in Cleveland by Cavaliers head team physician Dr. Richard Parker. His recovery time is projected to be three to four months and his status will be updated as appropriate.

Irving's injury occurred early in the overtime period after he collided with Klay Thompson while driving attempting to drive the lane.

He immediately left the floor and was taken to the locker room, visibly distraught.

Already in an 0-1 hole to Golden State after Friday's overtime defeat, Cleveland's road to a title has grown even more difficult. The Cavs now turn to backup Matthew Dellavedova to man the point for the remainder of the series.

Iriving is the second member of Cleveland's "Big Three" to be lost during the playoffs due to injury. Forward Kevin Love suffered a season-ending shoulder injury during Round 1 against the Boston Celtics.
