Give and Go: What Should Mavericks Do with Rondo?

When the Miami Heat lost LeBron James this past summer, it was something that both enraged Pat Riley and set the team back considerably. For the first time since LeBron James arrived, the Miami Heat missed the playoffs — which is no coincidence.

The quest in South Beach isn't for a title, but to replace LeBron James in the Big 3, and that might be where Rajon Rondo plays a role in thing.s

According to Jason Lieser of the Palm Beach Post, if the Miami Heat are unable to re-sign Goran Dragic, then pursuing Rajon Rondo might be in the cards.

Losing out on Dragic would mean Pat Riley badly misfired on the big trade to land him earlier this season. All of the shifting and dealing resulted in no playoff berth for the Heat and in the end it would mean a plethora of lost assets.

At the end of the day though, the Heat are in desperate need of another superstar presence to complete their Big 3, and that's where Rondo comes into play. He flamed out badly in Dallas, souring his reputation and proving that he's difficult to work with if not in the perfect situation.

Is that perfect situation in Miami?

Rondo coming to town might give Dwyane Wade extra incentive to stick around, assuming he doesn't pick up his massive player option for 2016. Completing the Big 3 has been a goal for Pat Riley since he was burned by James last summer, and Rondo could be the crazy wild card option that finally does that.
