Glowing Millipedes Light Up California Forests

It's one of nature's most amazing light shows: Glowing millipedes! These bioluminescent creatures are only found in California's Sierra Nevada mountain range.

The best time to see them is in early summer right after a rainfall. They come out of the ground late at night and set the forest floor aglow in a magical sort of light show. These creepy crawlers cast their light as a sort of "glow means no" warning to predators. When they feel threatened, they ooze poison -- so any critter that dare get too close is in for a toxic treat.
