Sleep Cycle, an app that monitors your sleeping pattern and triggers your alarm clock at the ideal time, analyzed its data and found that, on average, women sleep more than men. This chart from Quartz.com shows that even on weekends women in the US are clocking in more hours with the Sandman than men. Sleep Cycle compiled stats from over a million users between 16 and 55 years old over the course of 9 months.

Last year, a study out of Duke University found that not only do women need more sleep than men, but they suffer more if they don't get enough. According to that same study, not only are women are more irritable when they don't get enough shuteye, they're at a higher risk for things like heart disease and stroke.

So, ladies, next time your significant other, your roommate or your mom tells you to rise and shine, science says you can tell them to shove it.
