Kidnapping survivor Elizabeth Smart gave birth to a daughter earlier this year.

Her father Ed Smart revealed the baby news to Salt Lake Tribune and said that the 27-year-old and her husband welcomed a girl who they named Chloe back in February and decided to keep the news private.

In 2002, Smart was taken from her bed and held hostage by a couple for nine months. She has since become a public activist in the fight against child sex trafficking.

Smart and her father launched the Elizabeth Smart Foundation, which provides resources to help find missing children and stop child sex-trafficking.

Ed told the East Idaho News last week, "We want all of those people that have been victimized out there to be survivors. We want them to find their dreams and find that new hope in life that helps them become the best and the most they can be."
