Mother says she was kicked off United flight due to crying child

Sarah Blackwood, a singer-songwriter with the band Walk Off the Earth, is sharing her story about getting kicked off a United flight due to her crying child.

Blackwood who is 7 months pregnant was flying from San Francisco to Vancouver on Wednesday with her son who is under 2 years of age.

She commented to ABC News, "When everyone was boarded, my son got very fussy...He started to cry really loud, he was squirming in my arms and I was doing everything I could to hold onto him."

That's when Blackwood was approached by a flight attendant. She told CBC, "I was asked a couple of times to control my child and because I am the parent I should calm him down."

Blackwood says a few minutes later he fell asleep as she had anticipated. But as they were taxing, the pilot announced that the plane was being taken back to the gate and she was asked to get off with her son.

SkyWest Airlines, the operator of that United flight released a statement which reads in part, "The crew made the difficult decision to remove Ms. Blackwood and her child from the flight based solely on safety concerns. Despite numerous requests, the child was not seated, as required by federal regulation to ensure passenger safety, and was repeatedly in the aisle of the aircraft before departure and during taxi."

Blackwood notes they were in a window seat and the child was not in the aisle.

She also posted on Twitter, ""Apparently my little 2 yr old crying son was a big threat to @united UA6223.MY 2 YR OLD!A threat?!?! Kicked us off the plane @discrimination"

Many people have commented on social media supporting Blackwood. One of the fellow passengers said, "I'm in disbelief and had I known what was transpiring behind me on the plane I would have defended her completely. When someone tried to they were also told they would be kicked off as well. Absolutely unacceptable."

The airline rebooked Blackwood and her son on a later fight.
