Once Again, 'Game of Thrones' Gets Called Out for Rape Scene

HBO's "Game of Thrones" is no stranger to the controversy attached to its frequent portrayal of sexual violence. Last week's episode put the series back in hot water after airing a brutally graphic rape scene between Sansa Stark (Sophie Turner) and Ramsay Bolton (Iwan Rheon).

Twitter reacted with horror, but one particularly powerful fan had strong words regarding the scene and the series itself on social media.

Senator Claire McCaskill (Missouri) took to Twitter writing, "Ok, I'm done Game of Thrones. Water Garden, stupid. Gratuitous rape scene disgusting and unacceptable."

Senator McCaskill was hardly the only viewer upset by the horrific sexual violence.

President of HBO Michael Lombardo continues to stand by the creative vision of the wildly popular series.
