WQAD - A Quad City teenager who faced bullying got a very special birthday present. The overwhelming wishes he received came from complete strangers.
Damion Holmes wasn't looking forward to his 13th birthday.
"He didn't want a big party because he knew he wasn't going to be able to invite a lot of people," said Damion's mom, Rachel Peters.
Rachel says Damion's been bullied and only has a couple close friends, so she wanted to make sure his birthday was special.
"I wanted him to make sure that he knew there are good people out there," said Rachel.
She went on a Facebook group called Give It Away Quad Cities. The site started two months ago, where people pay it forward to others. Already the group has 450 members.
Rachel posted on the page simply asking people to wish her son a happy birthday. The response she got was overwhelming.
"I only expected a couple of responses, but I mean it's just been outpouring," said Rachel.
Some people even stopped by to drop off gifts. All were complete strangers going out of their way to make sure a 13-year-old boy felt extra special.
A birthday Damion says he won't forget, "Thank you to all the people that told me happy birthday and brought me gifts. Now I know that people care."
