Father-son duo who review toys on YouTube are making bank
From selling lemonade on the corner to swapping Pokemon cards on the bus, we all tried our hand at childhood entrepreneurship at one point or another. But most of us probably didn't make it as big as 9-year-old Evan.
Along with his dad, Jared, Evan has taken YouTube by storm and makes up to $1.3 million a year with his channel, EvanTubeHD.
Evan and Jared have been posting video toy reviews to YouTube since 2011. Since then, they've racked up more than 1.3 million subscribers and more than 1.2 billion video views. Evan's mom and sister have also gotten in on the action.
"Like most people, I've often thought of dream jobs I'd love to have. But never in my wildest dreams did I think one of them would be making a living creating videos while doing fun things with my family," Jared told Fast Company. "This is definitely one dream job that is going to be hard to top."
All the proceeds from the EvanTubeHD channel go straight to savings and investment accounts that will cover his kids college tuitions, Jared said.
More recently, Evan's family has expanded their videos to include sketches, interviews, and even cameos from WWE wrestlers.
Jared also shared some tips for those of you looking to connect with a wider audience on YouTube. He said the key to engaging with viewers is to be persistent, provide a takeaway value and most importantly, embrace your inner youth.
