A family in Hawaii is mourning the death of a young woman who died doing one of her favorite hobbies.

Hawaii News Now reports 27-year-old Darlene Feliciano slipped and fell 500 feet while hiking with a friend on an off-limits trail near the Makapu'u Tom Tom trail in Oahu Friday afternoon just before 1:00.

The area is called The Puka and known for its striking views and is popular among photographers. The Honolulu Fire Department airlifted Feliciano to the hospital but was pronounced dead shortly after 2 p.m.

According to the Medical Examiner, she died of multiple blunt force injuries by accident.

Friends say Feliciano worked as a Walmart supervisor and loved to go hiking in her spare time. Her Facebook account is full of photos from her treks.

KHON reports hiker rescues have become a much more common occurrence and officials are urging the public to exercise safety as well as contacting websites that promote off-limit trails to take down their content.

"People like to go on these hikes because they see all these pictures online that look really nice. But all these hikes tend to be more dangerous and they might not be maintained as well, so they are definitely restricted for a reason. I think people should definitely try to avoid them."
