Lilly Pulitzer for Target Causes Shopping Frenzy

CHICAGO - It was a shopping frenzy Sunday at Target stores in the Chicago area and across the country, as eager customers snatched up floral pastel dresses, bikinis, beach cover-ups and tote bags.

Target's limited edition Lilly Pulitzer collection went on sale Sunday -- and within hours, it was sold out online and in stores.

The Lilly for Target collection offers discounted versions of resort wear apparel and accessories by Lilly Pulitzer.

WGN caught up with some shoppers at a Target store on the North Side. Disgruntled shoppers complained about website outages and difficulties in placing orders - and Target responded to some on Twitter.

In a tweet the company said,"The Lilly for Target collection is available for a limited time. We do not anticipate more items becoming available."

Now, USA Today is reporting that Lilly items are being posted on eBay with massive markups. USA Today writes: "Colorful dresses and home goods that originally sold for less than $40 have asking prices of more than $100. Target's spokesman Joshua Thomas called the eBay markups 'really disappointing' in an interview Sunday with USA TODAY."

Thomas went on to say that Target will not be restocking the 250-piece line.
