Skydiver's Camera Plummets to the Ground After Parachute Malfunction

Luke is a junior skydiver from Cape Town, South Africa, and April 11 was supposed to be a day for a routine jump that would help a friend train for formation skydiving. It turned out to be far from routine when Luke's main parachute malfunctioned, prompting him to deploy his reserve chute. The force of the change knocked his helmet off, sending it and his GoPro plummeting to the ground, eventually landing in a rugby field.

Luke explained what happened:

'It was a routine jump, and as we were nearing pull altitude I turned to track away. I waved and pulled my main chute and then SLAM! I landed safely on the drop zone under my reserve parachute and began searching for my gear. We searched for about 4-5 hours and finally found a group of men who had it ... a friend did some smooth talking and eventually got the equipment back for a nominal fee ... they were pretty much holding my gear ransom.'
