The first photo of Suicide Squad star Jared Leto as the Joker is here, and it's a classic Batman tribute!
Director David Ayer tweeted the pic on Thursday, which shows Leto donning the Joker's signature green hair and holding a camera, a reference to the cover of Batman: The Killing Joke, one of the most critically-acclaimed graphic novels featuring the famous villain.
The Killing Joke, which features an origin story that describes the villain as a failed stand-up comedian who is driven insane after being disfigured and defeated by Gotham's hero, is considered by many to be the definitive Joker story and one of the best Batman stories ever published.
Leto was not pictured in the cast photo Ayer snapped at a read-through on Wednesday, prompting many to wonder where he was and even suggesting that he was the one who snapped the photo. But this new pic – complete with the #WhereIsJared hashtag – will certainly whet the appetites of DC fans everywhere.
