April 12 is National Grilled Cheese Day! You may not realize it, but there are a few simple ways to make a classic and simple grilled cheese even more exciting than usual. This holiday, celebrate with these delicious tricks.
The cheese in the classic is always wedged between two pieces of bread, but why stop there? For an extra delicious grilled cheese, try adding cheese to the outside of the sandwich. This additional step can take place after you've grilled the bread and cheese. Just add a cheese slice to the outside of the bread and let the cheese melt into it for an even gooier, cheesier meal.
Adding more cheese is just the beginning. Another awesome trick? Adding macaroni and cheese to the middle! It's actually fairly straightforward to prepare. To start, you can pop an instant mac and cheese cup into the microwave, and once cooked, let the instant mac and cheese sit in the refrigerator. Then, flip the container over onto a plate so that the mac and cheese slides out as one solid mass. Dip the mac and cheese into flour, eggs and bread crumbs. Place the mac and cheese into a skillet of oil and cook it. (Be sure to flip it over so that it browns on both sides.) Place the cheesy goodness in between two slices of bread, and be prepared to have your mind blown.
