Mom apologizes on Facebook for kids' rude behavior
An Alabama mother just proved that an apology can go a long way.
When Kyesha Smith Wood picked her children up from the movie theater Saturday, her son let her know her two 13-year-old girls, Wood's daughter and stepdaughter, had been disrespectful during the screening, even continuing their behavior after a woman asked them to quiet down.
Wood also learned the woman had approached her daughter after the movie to say the screening of "Cinderella" they'd just watched was the last movie she and her family would get to see for a while because her husband had been laid off.
Wood immediately got on Facebook to try to find the woman so her girls could apologize.
She wrote: "This rude, disrespectful and awful behavior is unacceptable and they owe you an apology. My husband and I are having them write your apology letter tonight and we would like to pay for your next movie and snacks out of their allowance."
Wood's post got lots of feedback, and all of it -- yes, all of it -- was positive. One man wrote: "Parenting. You're doing it right." Another commenter said, "I just wanted to let you know that the way you handled this situation was truly amazing to me."
According to the Jefferson County Sheriff's Office, it didn't even take 24 hours for Wood's apology to make it to the woman.
It turns out that the woman's name is Rebecca Boyd, who told AL.com: "After I read [the apology] I was touched that she cared how her kids behaved. You don't see that a lot these days."
"I was expecting someone to be upset that I approached their daughters and spoke to them. I was shocked that the mother supported me," Boyd told ABC.
"The real hero is her. It's Miss Boyd," Wood said to WBMA.
Perhaps the most important silver lining to come out of Wood's apology post, WBMA reports several companies saw it and contacted the Boyd family about possible employment opportunities.
