On Thursday more than 1,000 chefs across five continents served dinners to thousands of foodies for "Gout de France," or "Good France," a massive global celebration of French food.
French gastronomy is so revered that it's recognized as an "Intangible Cultural Heritage of Humanity" by UNESCO. The Good France program's aim was to share this love of food in cities around the world. It's a modern take on the concept of Epicurean Dinners (Les Dîners d'Épicure), which serve one menu on one day in cities around the world. Instead of one menu, participating Good France chefs (not all of whom were French) developed their own menus using French ingredients and traditions. The result was thousands of beautifully presented plates.
The event was coordinated by chef Alain Ducasse and France's foreign ministry. According to the program, the meal "allows people to gather together around a well-set table to enjoy the 'art of good food with good drink' and celebrate a significant moment in their lives, individually and in groups."
In other words, people got together and gorged on a whole lot of French food and wine.
Not surprisingly, a lot of them Instagrammed their meals, so even if you didn't eat French cheese or squab for dinner, you can drool over photos of the meals.
