Madonna Compares Marriage To Guy Ritchie To Prison

Madonna admits she felt like a prisoner during her marriage to director Guy Ritchie. In an interview with The Sun, the "Express Yourself" singer revealed that she felt like a she couldn't express herself during her nearly eight-year marriage to Ritchie.

"I did find myself sometimes in a state of conflict," the 56-year-old singer said. "There were many times when I wanted to express myself as an artist in ways that I don't think my ex-husband felt comfortable with... There were times when I felt incarcerated. I wasn't really allowed to be myself."

While she didn't mention any specific incident, one could argue her image during her marriage to the "Sherlock Holmes" director was more tame compared to her prior and post marriage persona.

Madonna did point out that sacrifice is integral to any relationship, and a fair compromise can make a big difference in a marriage. She and Ritchie were married in 2000 and filed for divorce in 2008.
