Shannon Scovel is a sophomore journalism student at American University where she serves as the sports editor of her student newspaper, The Eagle. Originally from Cary, North Carolina, Shannon has a passion for sports and previously worked as a correspondent for the Raleigh News and Observer covering high school athletics.

When she is not writing about the American University Eagles, Shannon is competing as a member on the AU varsity swim team, racing triathlons for Team USA or reading inspirational sports books. She also serves as a student ambassador for AU's School of Communication, where she works with peers and faculty to promote the communication program to current and prospective students.
