Oscar de la Renta fall 2015: Peter Copping's debut collection

Updated

Peter Copping debuted his first collection for Oscar de la Renta last night, showing a deep desire to keep the line true to the Oscar aesthetic while introducing some new touches. Having been named the new Creative Director of Oscar de la Renta not long before the famed designer's passing, Copping was supposed to have worked side-by-side with de la Renta on this collection.

Copping left a note on each seat at the show that read, "I am immensely proud to have been chosen as the creative director of Oscar de la Renta. Unfortunately things did not go according to our plans and I never had the chance to work with Oscar, which is something I deeply regret." Needless to say, the collection has been highly anticipated, and there was a lot of weight on his shoulders.

Karlie Kloss and Taylor Swift sat eagerly in the audience alongside fellow designers, fashion editors and New York socialites. All were ready to see what Copping could do.

The collection had a definite Oscar feel (opening with a gorgeous collarless coat), but introduced some new elements: including a geometric patterned pencil skirt and a bit of sheer lace. It was a true tribute to Oscar de la Renta's legacy, and we're excited to see where Peter Copping will take the brand next.
