Simple hacks you'll need this winter

We're in the middle of the winter and there is no better time than now to let you in on a couple of simple winter hacks to keep you warm.There's nothing worse than finding yourself not getting into your car because the locks have frozen. One simple life hack is so obvious, your red face might melt the ice all by itself.

Take your key and use a lighter to heat it up a little bit. The key will slide into the lock with ease. Quick warning; if you have one of those plastic door fob keys, don't use a lighter -- you'll melt it. You have a keyless car, you shouldn't be having this problem.

Now you're inside your car, but you can't see out your windshield and you forgot your ice scraper in the house. Use a credit card when you're in a pinch; just another reason to "never leave home without it."

If after all this effort you realize your car is stuck in the snow, put some kitty litter under the wheels of your car for some added traction.

Winter hacks aren't limited to just your car. A number of years ago KXLY did a package on how filling pantyhose with Icy Melt and placing it along your gutter could save them from ice damage.

Our favorite winter life hack involves hot chocolate. Take a tablespoon of Nutella and add it to your favorite brand of hot cocoa. It doesn't solve any problems, but it tastes delicious.
