Two children and two adults were reportedly gunned down Wednesday morning about 15 miles north of Winston-Salem, North Carolina.

The unnamed victims -- a man, woman and children aged 6 and 9 -- were found dead just before 12:00 p.m., according to local television station WXII.

Both of the children were students at Poplar Springs Elementary School, sources told local television station WGHP. One was a special needs student.

Grandparents called police for a welfare check after the children failed to attend school and neither adult made it to work, sources told WXII.

This is a developing story, more information will come as it is made available.
