Ship finds a rarely seen type of orca
Take a look at what's thought to be the first ever footage of a rare type of killer whale. The type we're used to are type A -- you know them, they're the he huge white and black whales with white eye patches like Free Willy.
The National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration or NOAA says there are actually four classes of orcas, though.
This rare type D orca is said to have a more rounded forehead, smaller eye patches and a shorter fin.
They're rarely seen, and it's believed that this is the first time they've been caught on camera alive.
While tracking poachers in the southern Indian Ocean, the sea shepherd conservation society spotted this pod of 13 rare orcas.
The group reports that during rough seas, the pod floated alongside their ship for almost an hour, putting on quite the show --- bow riding, lots of breaches, and some good old fashioned tail slapping.
