How does Barbie influence body image?
Barbie has long been the target of debate on topics of body issue. In recent years, the Mattel doll has even seen declining sales as other competitors have entered the market. One competitor, the new Lammily doll markets their doll with the slogan 'Average is beautiful.'
While it can be speculated and contested if these competitor Barbies will gain popularity or bring in promising sales revenue, there is a more important question. Does Barbie have an influence on how young girls shape ideas of body image?
