Report: Cleveland Cavaliers acquire Timogey Mozgov from Nuggets
The Cleveland Cavaliers needed a rim protector to complete their roster, and they sent two future first-rounders to the Denver Nuggets to get one.
When LeBron James signed with the Cleveland Cavaliers this summer, there was a massive hole on the roster that needed to be filled. Cleveland had the best player on the planet but lacked a rim protector to pull the defense together down low.
As the season progressed, the problem of not having a rim protector only intensified as the losses began to pile up. In the last 10 games, it began unequivocally clear that the Cleveland Cavaliers either needed to get a rim protector or face the very real possibility of being a one-and-done team in the postseason.
On Wednesday afternoon, the Cavaliers rebuffed the latter claim by acquiring the previous. After long discussions with the Denver Nuggets, the Cleveland Cavaliers have a deal to acquire Timofey Mozgov for two future first round picks.
According to the report, the Cavaliers will not be blowing up the roster to acquire Mozgov, but instead will be giving up a pair of future first-round picks to trade for the big man.
It's a trade that many saw happening but could't figure out how. In fact, the Cavaliers were having the hardest time figuring out how to grab Mozgov as the Denver Nuggets were meeting them with resistance the entire way.
Cleveland needed a big man to protect the rim, and that's what they're getting in Timofey Mozgov. He's a real threat in the frontcourt and he adds the defensive prowess the Cavaliers were so desperately missing.
He doesn't guarantee a title, but the Cavaliers have made two huge trades in the last 72 hours to vastly improve a struggling team. If the pressure wasn't already on before it's more than certainly on after these trades.Related links
