A look back at the stars we lost in 2014

We had to say some hard goodbyes in 2014.

From untimely deaths that left us in shock to drawn-out farewells that seemed to hurt just as much, the world lost some of its most iconic actors, musicians, authors, artists and athletes this past year. Though most of us never knew Philip Seymour Hoffman or Gabriel García Márquez or Shirley Temple Back, they found ways to impact our lives through their work.

It's been a long year, so take a few minutes to remember -- who we lost and why we loved them. Parting can be tough, but sometimes a little reminiscing can make it all better.
