The Republic of Ireland's Stephanie Roche's goal for Irish women's club Peamount United in October 2013, which has had almost 3 million views on YouTube, has been nominated for Fifa's goal of the year award.

The goal, which helped earn the striker a professional contract with French club ASPTT Albi, is on a shortlist of three alongside World Cup efforts from Colombia's James Rodriguez and Netherlands' Robin van Persie.

According to BBC, Roche would become the first female to earn Fifa's Puskas award if she receives the most votes. Users can vote on Fifa.com and francefootball.fr.

The winner will be announced at the Fifa Ballon d'Or 2014 Gala in Zurich on January 12, 2015.

According to Mirror.co.uk, Roche's inclusion was a surprise addition to the original list.
