Fly Eagles, fly!

Happy Thanksgiving to everyone out there! It's 9:57 a.m., I have the Billy Joel marathon on the MSG Network going, and I have Philadelphia Eagles colors on. Yes, that's a teal sweater, black shirt and black pants. Okay, so the Eagles are dark green, not teal, but it brings me to a greater point at hand. Thanksgiving is a day of the three F's: food, fun and football, and there's one of the best games of the year at 4:30; that being the Cowboys hosting the Eagles on FOX.
Yes, both teams are tied for first at 8-3, but I think the game shares even bigger significance given the fact that this Giants fan is willing to reach across the aisle and root for -- gulp -- the Philadelphia Eagles. That's right, the same Eagles that knocked Frank Gifford out cold, the same fans that threw snowballs and iceballs at Santa and of course, who could forget the "Body Bag Game"?
Giants fans and Eagles fans have more in common than people would like to believe. Both fan bases represent a raw, blue-collar way of life, from upstate New York to Cape May, Long Island to Broad Street. They both live and die with their teams, tailgate from dawn to dusk, and yes, as said before, share New Jersey. They love their beer and soft pretzels. New Yorkers have steak and pizza; those from the land of Franklin have cheesesteaks.
But here's what they have most in common: a common enemy, the Dallas Cowboys.
Yes, the Dallas Cowboys and their fans don't exactly share the same spectrum as their NFC East rivals. Dallas has J.R. Ewing, expensive art galleries in their stadium and country music. The fans wear brand new leather boots and belt buckles. I don't think the Philly faithful would be caught dead wearing that ensemble.
My advice to the Eagles? Win the coin toss and make sure the Cowboys are looking into that unbelievably annoying window with the sun glaring through. A couple of my Philly friends told me they were rooting for the Giants to play spoilers last week, so I can only return the favor.
