Valuable fossil stash behind New Jersey strip mall
One piece of evidence working in favor of that theory is that all of the specimens found to-date are intact and perished at the same time. Thus, the dig could prove quite helpful in determining once and for all what caused the mass extinction of many species and cleared the way for the development of man.
Heading the important undertaking is Ken Lacovara, a celebrated paleontologist from Drexel University. For the New Jersey dig, Lacovara has been working with a team. Their excavation work has unearthed many fossils including a 7-foot long prehistoric crocodile and a bus-sized predator. In just the past three years the group has invited and been joined by over a thousand volunteers.
