Buddy the dog has proved how loyal man's best friend can be.

Buddy's owner, 85-year-old rancher JR Nicholson, was taken to a hospital after he felt dizzy. Roughly 20 miles into the drive, a driver flagged down the ambulance and said a dog was standing on the ambulance's step.

That dog, of course, was Buddy. He was then put into the ambulance with Nicholson, who was released later that day. He's OK.

Nicholson's ranch hand told the San-Angelo Standard-Times, "Two things go through your mind ... First, what could have happened to (Buddy), and second, you realize he is quite an animal."

Quite the pal.
