We always knew that Mario Lopez had amazing abs, but did you know the former "Saved by the Bell" star is a seasoned endurance athlete?

The 41-year-old actor and host has completed 2 marathons, 2 half marathons and a triathlon, and that doesn't even include the race he's about to take on this weekend.

Lopez is gearing up to head to the the wild, zany and completely awesome Rock N' Roll Las Vegas Marathon and Half Marathon, which stretches down the Vegas strip and will include performances from Macklemore and Ryan Lewis.

The Hollywood heartthrob, who will be hitting the pavement with 35,000 other runners, revealed in an exclusive interview with AOL that he wasn't always fond of running. Naturally, we had to get the skinny on why he loves the sport now and how he preps for a big race day.

1. What kind of shoes do you wear?

New Balance.

2. How often do you replace them?

I replace them fairly often. I go through them quickly because I'm active. I'm always running or boxing or hiking or whatever the case may be.

3. You're running the "Half of a Half" marathon this weekend on the Las Vegas Strip. Can you tell us why you picked this race?

It's for a good cause, the Crohn's and Colitis Foundation of America, and it's something that I really want to be a part of. It's also going to be super cool, they're closing down the entire strip for the run.

4. What other races have you done in the past?

I've done marathons, the Boston, New York, but I've also done triathalons. I actually have a torn rotater cuff right now, so [a half of a half] was all it could handle.

5. How do you prep for a race?

I think it's important to fuel up the night before. Don't drink, get a good night's rest. I usually do a lot of pasta the night before. And then after a race I do whatever I'm feeling, and cocktails, of course.

6. What activities do you like besides running?

I really like boxing, that's actually how I tore my rotator cuff, but other than that cross-fit, hiking, I really like to mix it up.

7. Do you have a running buddy?

I think it's a good idea to have one, but I actually don't just because my schedule is so crazy. I tend to do it on my own. But yeah, if you have someone you can run with I think that helps. Even if they're not running with you but on the same training schedule.

8. Have you always liked to run?

I used to hate it when I was younger. But now it's kind of therapeutic for me. It's the best way to get in shape and it's always good to get that music going.

9. What music do you like to run to?

Well, it's got to be upbeat music. I like hip-hop music. I'm really into working out to [Electric Dance Music] right now. Skrillex, Afrojack, those guys.

10. Do you have any running advice for our readers?

I think there are three important things with running. Have the right shoes -- that makes the biggest difference in the world. Keep the right kind of music playing to keep you motivated, and if you have someone you can run with, I think that makes such a difference.
