Before Jennifer Garner made an honest man out of Ben Affleck, she was just a girl, standing in front of a boy, wanting him to love her. On television, where everyone could see.
In 2003, the future Mr. & Mrs Affleck appeared together on IFC's Dinner For Five. The short-lived series featured Jon Favreau and a revolving guest list of celebrities who eat, drink and dish about Hollywood. On this episode, the pair are joined by their Daredevil co-stars, Colin Farrell and Favreau, and Garner couldn't hide her adoration for Affleck from across the table.
When discussing how she landed the role of Elektra in the superhero flick, a super-smiley Jen thanks the actor for not asking her to audition. Ben responds, "Please, I thought you were great and I wanted you to do it." (She later convinced Ben to do a guest role in her Elektra spin-off.)
At one point in the episode, Kevin Smith – whose comic book version ofDaredevil influenced the film -- starts making fun of Ben, and Jen is quick to stick up for her leading man.
"I'm going to have to kick your ass now," she warns Smith.
Favreau chimes in, "She's very protective of him!"
At the time, Jennifer was still married to her Alias co-star Scott Foley (they separated two months later) and Ben was engaged to Jennifer Lopez (they called off the wedding a year later). But that didn't stop Garner from looking like she had a school girl crush!
Maybe Ben was completely clueless, but as ET found out in 1997, until he got famous he wasn't used to that kind of attention.
"You go through life women won't talk to you and then you're in a movie and suddenly you're the hunk guy," he told us. "Why wasn't I the hunk before?"
Thankfully he found his dream girl in Garner. The two wed in 2005 and are the proud parents to Violet, 8, Seraphina, 5, and Samuel, 2. Nine years later the couple is still going strong!
