With September in full swing, AOL sat down with these adorable kids to see how they feel about starting the school year.

Some smiled reluctantly about learning new things, while others were excited to play tag during recess.

Though these elementary school students were sad to see summer go, they were excited about math games and writing about their favorite animals.

Children remind us why we don't want to go back to school

For him, school means it's the end of summer and time to start learning!

He's ready to put his thinking cap on!
But he sure is going to miss those sunny days!
What is he excited to learn about this school year? Sharks!
...Not to mention dolphins, sperm whales and sea turtles!
He's looking forward to eating lunch with his friends.
She's going to miss fun-filled summer days and sleeping in.
But at least they can play zombie tag at recess. You're it!
The worst thing about school for this adorable fellow?
Lots and lots of school work!
For this little lady, going back to school means doing something she loves -- reading!
Two words: math games!
But a new grade does mean more challenging work.
And no more snack time.
