Another attempted murder connected to Slenderman
Another attempted murder has been connected to the fictional character Slenderman.
Fourteen-year-old Florida teen Lily Marie Hartwell, who was a fan of the cult horror character, allegedly set her home on fire while her mother and younger brother were asleep inside. Luckily, both were able to escape unharmed after the fire alarms went off.
The teen admitted to officers that she soaked bed sheets in bleach and rum, then lit them on fire in the garage. She then took a bag of her belongings: clothes, cookies, bottled water, flashlights, knives and lighters to a nearby park restroom, where she fell asleep, the Tampa Bay Times reported.
Her mother initially believed her daughter was still inside, but firefighters searched the home three times before deciding she wasn't there. It was then that her mother received a text from Hartwell saying, "Mom, I'm so sorry. I don't know why I did it. Did any of [you] get hurt?"
Hartwell was found nearby and taken into custody. She's been charged with two counts of attempted murder and one count of arson.
You might remember a separate Slenderman related attempted murder back in June. Two Wisconsin 12 year old girls stabbed a friend multiple times in the woods as an attempt to play out the character's storyline in real life.
Hartwell had reportedly written about the attempted murder in Wisconsin in her journal.
