MTA misspells its own name on license plate
A new license plate appearing on some fleet vehicles belonging to the New York Metropolitan Transportation Authority is not spelled correctly.
The reference is to the "Transporation" Authority. It's missing a "t." No, it is definitely not an abbreviation of the MTA's name, but some have speculated "transportation" didn't fit in the space on the plate.
The New York State Department of Motor Vehicles says it was not an MTA error. The state is trying to figure out the problem that occurred between the designers and manufacturers.
The order called for 908 plates, according to the DMV. They are being replaced, although an exact number of replacements (or the cost) could not be given.
