Whether you love her or hate her, it's clear that Joan Rivers has brought laughter into many homes and touched even more lives.

When news broke on Thursday night that the 81-year-old comedienne went into cardiac and respiratory arrest during surgery, family, friends and fans were shocked.

Her daughter Melissa Rivers released a statement on Friday about her mother's serious condition and her family's appreciation for the outpouring of support they have received.

"My mother would be so touched by the tributes and prayers that we have received from around the world," the statement read. "Her condition remains serious but she is receiving the best treatment and care possible. We ask that you continue to keep her in your thoughts as we pray for her recovery."

As Rivers remains on life support after being placed in a medically induced coma, celebrities have taken to Twitter to send thoughts and prayers to their friend and colleague.
