Surfers in southern California took advantage of unusually large surf in Newport Beach on August 27, where a huge swell from Hurricane Marie was expected to generate waves as big as 25 feet.

The National Weather Service issued a high surf advisory, warning that the swell, which has been described as the largest in a decade, would cause dangerous rip tides and possible flooding.

That warning has prompted surfers to flock to one particular area called 'The Wedge,' and people have been uploading their impressive pictures on Twitter.
