Miley sends golden-haired homeless boy named Jesse on stage to accept her award

This year, Miley Cyrus left the explicit on-stage dance movements to Nicki Minaj -- but she made sure to leave her mark at the 2014 MTV VMAs.

After being named Video of the Year winner for her hit 'Wrecking Ball,' Miley sent a friend up on stage to accept her Moonman while she sat by teary-eyed as he told his story to a captive audience.

That friend, who said his name was Jesse, and is reportedly 'a homeless teen currently living in Los Angeles, Calif.,' told the room and everyone watching about his life as a homeless youth, and reminded Hollywood that, outside the VMA walls, there were many young people living on the streets.

[Watch speech below.]

'I've survived in shelters all over... Though I may have been invisible to you in the streets, I have a lot of the same dreams that brought many of you here tonight,' he said. 'A dream you dream alone is only a dream. A dream you dream together is reality.'

Jesse asked viewers to visit Miley's Facebook page to learn more about the homeless youth movement and how to help.

Miley left this message on her FB page: 'Help me raise awareness and funds to end youth homelessness! This is just the beginning for me, but we're going to get started now by focusing on My Friend's Place, a homeless center for young people in Hollywood."

We're not saying anyone will ever forget what happened last year -- but using your fame to help people make a good-looking homeless person famous is definitely better than using it to break up marriages.
