Why we stopped caring about DLC

Once upon a time, there was a generation where games only shipped when they were completed. In these simpler times, whenever developers decided they wanted to add more content to a game, they either released a directors edition with bonus content or they did a sequel.

With the Xbox 360 and Playstation 3, DLC (or downloadable content) became a viable avenue for companies to try to extend the span of a game ...but for every company that tries to honestly add more for content for the fans there companies out just trying to milk their fan base.
