FIFA World Cup power rankings updated through the quarter Finals

1. Germany ( Last Week: 2 )

At the moment the Germans look like the team to beat heading into the final four teams of the FIFA World Cup. They have been literally great in every aspect. They have completed 85 percent of their passes which ties Italy for highest. Their percentage of shots on goal per total shots is second behind the Netherlands with 70 percent. They’re average possession of the ball for the tournament has been 59 percent, which is also second best of the tournament. Outstanding performances by goalkeeper Manuel Neuer also solidifies their spot as number one on my power rankings.

2. Argentina ( 5 )

The Argentines are picking things up finally. For the group stages, and against Switzerland, it seemed as if Argentina was riding on first gear. But, after their showcase against Belgium, it’s clear that Messi and his pack are a threat. The loss of Di Maria is huge and Perez, his replacement during the Belgium game, will be a huge downgrade.

Goals Scored: 8 (5th)

Goals Conceded: 3 (Tied – 2nd)

Completed Passes: 79% (5th)

Attacks: 280 (1st)

Shot on goal per total shots: 64% (7th)

Possession: 60% (1st)

Completed Clearances: 87% (10th)

Saves: 14 (10th)

3. Netherlands ( 4 )

Netherlands have Arjen Robben, enough said. Many critics are worried about stopping Lionel Messi but when the Argentina defense has to come up against Arjen Robben’s speed and power, Van Persie’s left footed monster shot and heading ability, and Wesley Sneider’s long-range shots, Alejandro Sabella (Argentina head coach) has something to surely worry about. Netherlands boast the best shot on goal per total shot percentage from the 32 teams and have also scored the most goals in the tournament.

Goals Scored: 12 (Tied – 1st)

Goals Conceded: 4 (Tied – 9th)

Completed Passes: 77% (Tied – 11th)

Attacks: 206 (6th)

Shot on goal per total shots: 75% (1st)

Possession: 50% (15th)

Completed Clearances: 92% (Tied – 3rd)

Saves: 12 (Tied – 13th)

4. Brazil ( 7 )

Neymar? Out. Thiago Silva? Out. Willian? Doubtful. It’s not looking too good for the host nation. They surprisingly beat Colombia with ease and put James Rodriguez to rest, but with Thiago Silva getting a yellow card in consecutive matches, he will not be able to participate in the semi final matchup against Germany. Neymar suffered a fractured vertebrae in the 88th minute of play against Colombia and will miss the rest of the World Cup. He will not require surgery and thankfully the fracture isn’t career threatening.

Goals Scored: 10 (Tied – 2nd)

Goals Conceded: 4 (Tied – 9th)

Completed Passes: 73% (Tied – 24th)

Attacks: 221 (4th)

Shot on goal per total shots: 66% (Tied – 4th)

Possession: 53% (Tied – 10th)

Completed Clearances: 79% (24th)

Saves: 6 (Tied – 30th)
