KATY, Texas (AP) - Authorities say a ceiling collapsed into a crowd of people gathered in suburban Houston, sending nearly three dozen people to hospitals, including one with serious injuries.

West I-10 Fire Department spokesman Tim Thomas says one person was seriously injured when a ceiling collapsed Thursday during a gathering of about 100 people in a residential neighborhood in Katy, just west of Houston.

He says about 30 people were taken to hospitals, mostly with minor injuries.

A makeshift triage area was set up in the front yards of homes.
