The Future of 3-D Printed Food at 3D Systems Corporation
As a result of its acquisition of The Sugar Lab last September, 3D Systems will begin shipping its upcoming ChefJet and ChefJet Pro sugar-based 3-D printers later this year. Co-founded by Liz von Hasseln, The Sugar Lab 3-D prints with sugar to create customized 3-D printed edibles. Now acting as 3D Systems' creative director of food products, Liz oversees the development of 3D Systems' upcoming food-based 3-D printers. In the future, 3D Systems will likely expand its food 3-D printing portfolio beyond the scope of sugar and into the world of personal nutrition.
In the following video, 3-D printing specialist Steve Heller asks von Hasseln about the future of 3-D printed food and the role it plays at 3D Systems. Although the day when every home has a personal 3-D printing nutritionist seems like a long shot and is likely far out on the horizon, it's clear that 3D Systems will continue investing in the future of 3-D printed food in the hopes of gaining a first-mover advantage over the competition.
