10,000 coins discovered near doomsday-style bunker

The FBI says a Romanian couple set to be deported from Washington state left behind a doomsday-style bunker and millions of dollars in gold and silver coins.

NBC reports Radu and Diana Nemes were both wanted in Romania for alleged tax evasion. According to court documents, Radu, along with others in Romania, sold about one million tons of fuel and lied about what type it was in order to save nearly $70 million in taxes. Diana is accused of putting all that extra money into the bank.

Fox News says the two were arrested on their more than 50-acre property back in March. When investigators searched it, they found a hidden bunker, several illegally owned guns and gold and silver coins buried underground.

According to the Daily Mail, investigators found more than 10,000 gold and silver coins. But the outlet adds more than $2.7 million is still unaccounted for.

KIRO reports the hidden bunker had beds, a kitchen, clothes and a lot of food. After they were arrested, Diana reportedly tried fighting her arrest because she's pregnant and has two other kids.

But the judge ended up ruling against her. The Nemes family was in the Seattle area on visitor's visas, which have recently expired. Court documents say they moved to the U.S. in 2012.

According to KOMO, the couple was in the process of building a 6,000 square-foot log cabin on their property when they were arrested.

So far, it's not clear exactly when they could be deported back to Romania.
