Graduating college is a big deal, and one Davenport University grad decided to celebrate receiving his diploma in a big way.

"Oh, no! Yeah, he decided to do a backflip, but yeah he did not land that so well. Don't worry! He's okay."

Rough landing. MLive reports the graduate's name is Robert Jeffrey Blank.

Blank had just shaken the university president's hand when he attempted to do a backflip. Still, perseverance! The reporter noted that Blank was able to pick himself up and walk off the stage after landing face-first.

Blank spoke with Michigan's WOOD-TV about what made him decided to attempt the ill-fated flip.

'I do backflips all the time. And I was up there, my family was cheering for me, and after I shook all the hands, there was an open space and I gave it a go. It didn't work out so well.'

Well, hey - executing a backflip perfectly while wearing a cap and billowy gown AND holding a diploma might be a little hard.

But those commencement ceremonies can be exhausting, so we're sure Blank's stunt woke up everyone in the audience.

While his ego, and maybe a few other areas might be a little bruised, Blank still graduated so he's got that goin' for him.
