Chris Martin Opens Up About 'Conscious Uncoupling'

He didn't say her name outright, but it definitely sounded like Coldplay frontman Chris Martin was talking about Gwyneth Paltrow in this BBC Radio1 interview Monday.

He told the BBC, "If you don't open yourself up, then you can't appreciate the wonder outside ... so, you can be with someone very wonderful, and, because of your own issues ... you can not let that be celebrated in the right way."

The singer also took issue with the term "breakdown," saying the pair's so-called "conscious uncoupling" was "more about growing up."

The conversation was meant to focus on Martin's new album, and he did bring it back to that, telling Radio1: "Life throws these colorful challenges at you ... what we decided to do on 'Ghost Stories' was to really be honest about it and say, this is what's been happening."

Of the band's lead single, 'Magic,' he said, "It's just saying – ultimately - there is magic between two people no matter what anyone else thinks."

He might not have come out and said it, but the interview had several outlets concluding Martin was essentially taking full blame for the celebrity breakup.

Paltrow and Martin announced their split on the actress' lifestyle site Goop last month, after more than a decade of marriage. The joint statement read:

"We have come to the conclusion that while we love each other very much we will remain separate.

"We are, however, and always will be a family, and in many ways we are closer than we have ever been."

Paltrow and Martin married in December 2003, and have two children -- Apple, nine, and Moses, eight.
