Megachurch Founder Unexpectedly Resigns Due to 'Moral Failing'

The founder of a popular megachurch in Florida has unexpectedly resigned. Here's "Good Morning America."

'Pastor Bob Coy, founder of Calvary Church, shocked parishioners when he abruptly resigned on Sunday citing what he called a 'moral failing.''

WTVJ reports Coy's resignation was announced at a special meeting of more than 7,000 churchgoers Sunday, but Coy wasn't in attendance.

The church released a statement online Sunday saying Coy had resigned Thursday after admitting a 'moral failing in his life which disqualifies him from continuing his leadership role.'

The church hasn't stated what Coy's 'moral failing' was, but according to WPLG, Coy had admitted he cheated on his wife. Coy and his wife founded the Fort Lauderdale church almost 30 years ago.

In addition to his sermons, Coy also hosted a show that aired on WSVN. The station reports the show has been suspended after his surprise resignation.

And the link to Coy's bio on the church's website already leads to an error message saying the page can't be found.

The church says it will go through a cycle of rotating assistant pastors in the wake of Coy's resignation.
